ENLARGING THE SATS LIBRARY

SATS has been a hive of activity over the past weeks, as evidenced by the items in our latest Undergraduate Newsletter. Keep reading to catch up on exciting recent developments at the Seminary, as well as some important upcoming events…

EBSCOhost

EXPANDING OUR LIBRARY HOLDINGS

We are proud to announce a very exciting development for our library. In addition to our existing 20,000 digital and physical holdings, we have acquired three prestigious eBook collections from EBSCOhost. The EBook Academic collection, EBook Religion Collection, and The EBook Collection have an estimated 177,000 multi-disciplinary, scholarly titles from leading universities and academic publishers.

This acquisition is extremely important as our students can access them at the click of a button from anywhere in the world. The eBooks can be downloaded and viewed on mobile devices such as iPhone, IPad, Kindles and android devices, which is very appealing for students on the go. We believe the additional collections will offer students a much greater range of reference in their research.

SATS students can access these EBSCOhost collections using the login details provided on the MySATS platform under the ‘My Research Tools’ facility, by clicking on the ‘Online Journals’ option.

PARTNERSHIPS AND GRADUATES

Last month, Dr. Willem Semmelink, Head of the Undergraduate School at SATS, travelled to the Eastern Cape to meet with various partnerships. He and Dr. Kevin Smith (SATS’ Principal) also attended the Rhema Umtata Christian Church’s graduation ceremony, where 19 students graduated with SATS qualifications.

Facets of Pauline Discourse

NEW BOOK ON FACETS OF PAULINE DISCOURSE

Dr. Dan Lioy, the Senior Research Manager at SATS, has recently published “Facets of Pauline Discourse in Christocentric and Christotelic Perspective” through Peter Lang International Academic Publishers. In the book, Dr. Lioy looks at both the Old Testament and Paul’s letters to assert that a Christocentric and Christotelic perspective is an important feature in Paul’s discourse. The book can be purchased from Peter Lang HERE.

PASTORAL TRAINERS IN THAILAND

Drs. Willem Semmelink and Reuben van Rensburg travelled to Bangkok to attend the Global Proclamation Congress for Pastoral Trainers. Willem presented an elective on theological engagement and pastoral training at the congress, while SATS also had an information table for the 3,000 delegates to peruse.

CHE SITE VISIT

Earlier this month, SATS was visited by a representative committee from the CHE (Council of Higher Education) as part of our reaccreditation process. We would like to ask for your prayers that the report on this visit would be favourable, and that this visit will have been the final step in this round of reaccreditation for SATS.

2016 Survey CHRIST-CENTRED SURVEY

SATS would like to probe individual and church focus, specifically regarding the Lord Jesus Christ. We have set up a survey site, which we are asking you and your Christian friends to complete. The survey focuses on South African churches, so we ask that only people attending churches based in South Africa complete the survey.

We believe that this important survey will assist us in strengthening the focus on the Lord Jesus Christ in churches throughout South Africa, and sharpen the SATS mission and curriculum offerings. We will share the results of the survey, both in free publications and by means of presentations to church leaders.

All answers will be processed by an independent research company and treated in strictest confidence. The staff at SATS will only work with the aggregated statistics and will not have access to any individual’s identity or responses.

SATS will be giving away one Mecer tablet and several copies of “A Student’s A-Z of Theology” to randomly selected participants.

The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete, and can be accessed HERE.
