This introductory course in Christian counselling, “Medicine, Health and Healing,” explores, from an integrated theology and psychology perspective the history of healing in the church, and the church’s relationship to medicine and health.
The theological and psycho-spiritual implication of the use of psychotropic medications is explored.
The course will equip lay caregivers with sufficient psychopharmacological knowledge to be able to provide compassionate supportive care to those who are receiving mental health care from professionals.

On completion of this module, you should be able to:

  1. Explore, from an integrated theology/psychology perspective, the history of healing in the church and the church’s relationship to medicine and health.
  2. Understand the religious/spiritual/cultural prejudices and perceptions found in the church
  3. Oppose the religious and social stigmatisation of using psychotropic medications
  4. Demonstrate sufficient psychopharmacological knowledge to be able to provide compassionate supportive care
    to those who are receiving mental health care from professionals.
